CHAPTER TEN

They fucked four more times, recharging with retrieved energy boosters between their encounters. Eirene Ours came so hard during their breedings that her non-critical systems shut down.

She lay on top of Power. Her limbs were limp. Her form bubbled with his nanocybotics.

The ass had stamped his ownership all over her. Her lips twisted. Every cyborg she ever met would know she belonged with him.

That was alarming.

Because her warriors hated the E Model.

She glided her hands over his chest, savoring his strength, his heat. His muscles rippled under her palms. He rumbled softly. His dark eyes glowed.

A female could lose herself in those twin abysses. She could forget her purpose, her missions.

Eirene Ours didn’t have that luxury. Thousands of beings depended on her.

“The chatter over the transmission lines is becoming…intense.” She didn’t want to end their encounter. Ever. But if they delayed returning to reality a few moments longer, there was an 84.1256 percent chance it could result in war. “I’ll go back to my ship and calm my warriors down. You will do the same and—”

“I’m not leaving your side.” Power’s jaw jutted.

She frowned at him. “But—”

“No.” He was back to being his arrogant self, not taking her suggestions or listening to her ideas. “We tackle the future together.”

“Together means we both have a say in that future.” She sat on his stomach. “I listen. You listen.”

“Do you want us to part?” There was a touching vulnerability in her proud male’s voice.

“No. I don’t want to part.” She sighed. “But—”

“Then we don’t par—” He abruptly stopped talking.

She lifted her eyebrows.

“But?” His smile was rueful. “What were you seeking to relay before I interrupted you?”

She shook her head. He was trying. She appreciated that. “But my warriors hate you.”

His eyes flickered with an emotion resembling hurt.

“You didn’t send ships to retrieve them, Power.” She hastened to explain their stance, to defend her warriors. “You left them to die.”

“I would hate a being like that also.” He nodded. “I make tough decisions all the time. I’m accustomed to being hated.”

If she was a leader for a long duration, she would be forced to make tough decisions. She would be hated also.

That prospect made her uneasy.

“I would rather face the hatred with you”—he took her hands in his—“than hide from it alone.”

Her breath hitched. Frag, the male could talk.

“Then we stay together.” She pulled her fingers out of his grip and stood. “But I’m returning to my ship first.” She had to explain the situation to her warriors, prepare them for the combined future.

“We’ll meet with your parents first.” Her always-wanting-to-be-in-control E Model overruled her plans yet again.

She opened her mouth to protest that decision.

“They deserve to hear about us directly from us.” He jumped to his booted feet. “They’re your parents. They warrant that respect.”

She couldn’t argue with his logic. Her parents would appreciate a face-to-face conversation. They would see, with their own eyes, she was well and happy. “Fine. But if you don your arrogant-ass act, my dad will punch you in the face.
